1. Welcome 2011 – Are You Prepared to Fail?

Happy New Year!  I love this time of year because I can get back on track with my goals and get to work on making the next year the best ever.  BUT how do I know it will be the best?  Because I wrote it out!

IF you want your dreams to come true this year they must start in writing.

I write out sales forecasts, client numbers, and podcast, Blog, and newsletter ideas…PLUS I write down what I will do to make my goals happen.

BUT what if things don’t work out as planned?  Then what?

No worries – failure is all part of the success journey!

Don’t take my word for it…take Oprah’s:

Oprah Winfrey has admitted that she is prepared for the worst when it comes to her brand new network OWN The Oprah Winfrey Network. She told Entertainment Weekly, “I think we’re going to have some perhaps rocky times with the channel, keeping people there and keeping people motivated to keep watching, keeping them engaged . . . Taking the responsibility of programming even the first 600 hours. It’s a lot. And knowing that half of what we’re doing is not going to work, then what? But it’s an ongoing process, and I trust the process.”

So if I’m reading this right…Oprah is prepared for a 50% failure rate in what’s on the air right now on the OWN.

So why are we so devastated when we fail?  We need to learn from Oprah and know that some things will work and some won’t…it’s how fast you change, adapt and keep moving forward that really matters!

2. January – Resolution Radio

In radio, the end of December and the beginning of January are all about goals and resolutions.  We get thousands of people pitching this topic.  So what stood out this year?  And who was my first pick for this topic?

Alan Goff from Achieving Goal Inc grabbed my attention by pitching what we are all doing wrong in our resolution settings.

It’s not the things we do right that cause us to fail…it’s the things we do wrong.

3. Super Surprise

Over the Christmas vacation I re-wrote my On-Air Publicity Insiders Secrets to Getting Free Radio Publicity Ebook.  As a producer and radio host who gets pitched daily by the big PR firms of the world, I see what is happening in PR trends.  And let me say, if you haven’t changed your PR approach in the last few years – you will be left behind…and you will struggle to get the Media to connect with you.

I even added a chapter about using social media to connect with media.  Do this right and you’ll be successful. Do it wrong and you will get blacklisted!

BUT giving you step-by-step info on how to connect with the media in your town or city might not be enough…so I have supersized.
