Worst Part about Being in the Media

Crappy horrible things happen every day…and we have to report it. Terrorists blow up and kill people in Belgium. It's a tragic event! We see the images on the news…over and over again. Or a Gunman takes out innocent people in another shooting incident that has become all to familiar. These stories obviously affect us all.

BUT what's even worse is when someone you know dies in a crash or an accident and you have to share the story with your listeners. It breaks your heart sharing these stories because you often know they may be hearing about this for the first time from you.

Our radio show is a place where we try to not focus on all these terrible things that are happening. We mention them. We feel with them. and Then we still put on our smiley faces and try to be entertaining. WE try to be a bubble where you can come and escape.

Last week a friend and a guy we had on a the show often was killed by an avalanche. That was a morning I really dreaded going on the air at all.

But we did. We mentioned how sad we were for all his family and friends…and said we we're hurting too…and we were so sorry to report this tragic news.

So today when I received an email from a listener asking why we don't have any respect and how we could be joking or having fun knowing people died in Brussels, I thought you have no idea how hard it is being on the air and suffering so many tragedies with our listeners.

When you turn on your TV or your Radio and you see or hear the announcers, please know that they are feeling the pain with you. We can't always show it. We can't say how frustrated we are that these things are happening. We often have to read a script and remember the show must go on.

Yup, just wanted to let you know. We are human…and we do care.
