As a radio host, I get a ton of pitches to be on my radio show. As a media coach, I always tell my clients you NEED to become a local expert and offer your services to your local media. BUT no matter who you are, NEVER EVER send a pitch like this:
Dear Producer,
I’m a local author who just wrote a book and want an interview. What can you do for me?
That's it. No more info. Except for their name…which I'm leaving off for educational purposes.
There is soooo much wrong with this.
1. Dear Producer – Usually that's enough to get your email deleted.
2. What is your book about?
3. Who are you?
4. Why should we care?
5. What can I do for you? seriously?
Didn't even consider responding….I just hit delete.
I just had to share.
