The Days of the Dead Tour stops at On Air Publicity

My friend Gail Z Martin is doing a Days of the Dead Blog Tour. Today I am featuring her on my blog. So here's my friend Gail:

I’m always amazed at how my marketing consulting business (DreamSpinnerCommunications.com) connects to my bestselling fantasy adventure series, The Chronicles of the Necromancer (The Summoner, The Blood King, Dark Haven). I was recently asked to speak to a chapter of the American Advertising Federation by someone who knows me as a marketer and an author. She asked for a Halloween theme, since they were meeting in a theatre on the set for a production of Dracula!

I couldn’t resist, so my topic was “Interviewing the Vampire: PR Tips from Beyond the Grave.” I figured this was a good time of year to share them with Wayne, and he offered me the opportunity to pass them on to you. So there they are:

* Don’t let anything suck the life out of you. Your marketing should feel authentic and should tap into your passion. Marketing that feels artificial or that drains you when you do it is not drawing on your strengths.

* Use the right medium for your message. Maybe that medium is a newspaper, a radio station or a TV program–but it could be a blog, web site or email campaign.

* Channel your spirit effectively. Today’s consumers have more options in how to find information than ever before–and more distribution channels to choose from to receive their products of services. Can your company provide its product or service via download, telephone, webinar or through online collaboration? Expand your channels and you expand your profits.

* Never let go of unfinished business. Ghosts come back because of something left undone–and that’s a good reason to be thorough in your follow up with the media and prospects. Finish what you start.

* Don’t pass up the out of body experience. Virtual PR and Web 2.0 marketing can revitalize your campaigns and dramatically extend your market. Social networking can increase your personal reach far beyond your ability to drive to luncheons. Don’t pass up good opportunities just because they’re electronic.

* Magic animates all of us. For compelling copy, find the “magic” that connects your reader to your story.

If you’re looking to bring your marketing back from the dead this Halloween season, try these tips and see what kind of business you dig up!
