This may be the simplest idea ever! I usually have my clients pitch radio stations with ideas to get booked as a HOT radio guest. But what if you don't have a new product? You still need to introduce yourself to the media. Why? Because I want all my clients to be resources for the media.
Here's your homework
1. Look up and write down 5 radio and/ or TV stations in your hometown. (or state)
If you don't know where to find them…check out radio locator and enter your city or state.
2. Call the stations and ask for the news director.
3. Introduce yourself and let them know your expertise. Tell them you are just calling to let them know that you are available as a guest or expert if they ever need a clip.
4. Email them your details
If you are freaked out about doing this exercise…challenge yourself to make 1 phone call a day.
In 1 month you could have met 20 producers.
OK Now that you are a self pr wizard, contact Dr. Laura, Oprah, Glenn Beck, and every other major show you can think of…and introduce yourself.
Trust me on this…you will definitely make a positive impression.
