Valerie Geller is a Broadcast Consultant who just released a book titled, Beyond Powerful Radio. She shares tips for becoming a better broadcaster. BUT many of her principles also apply to you…for doing media interviews. Getting interviews is only one piece of the equation. The most important piece of your Publicity puzzle is how you perform during the interview!
Some points:
• Tell the truth, Make It Matter, and Never Be Boring!
• Speak visually, in terms a listener can "picture".
• Never let anything go too long – if the host hasn't said anything for 5 minutes…stop talking!
• LISTEN (The number 1 secret to great interviews).
• Be who you are.
• Take Risks. Dare to be GREAT!
As a radio host who's interviewed thousands of guests, I wish everyone could understand the importance of these points. If you start practicing with these in mind, it won't take long for you to be in the top 5% of great interviews!
