IF you've driven, or walked or breathed…you've probably wondered what is wrong with people these days. Well, new research shows they are probably medicated…or need to be!
This is great research for experts who want to talk about behavioral problems and the problem with over medicating…or on the other side of the coin…maybe more people need to be medicated.
The latest research says 20 PERCENT OF U.S. ADULTS ARE ON BEHAVIORAL MEDICATION: More than 20 percent of U.S. adults took at least one drug for behavioral or psychiatric problems in 2010, including more than 25 percent of women, according to a report from Medco Health Solutions. The use of these kinds of drugs, for conditions such as anxiety, depression and ADHD, increased 22 percent from 2001, and although they're most often prescribed to women who are 45 years old and older, their use among men and in younger adults climbed sharply.
What's not clear, however, is if people are actually developing more psychological problems that need drug treatment, or if they are just more willing to seek help and medical professionals are better at diagnosing them than they used to be.
