Get Publicity by Joining the Conversation

Last week on my radio show my co-host talked about how she saw a skateboarder come flying down a mega hill that's about 6km long…and how this skateboarder held up traffic. He hadn't been wearing any protection – not even a helmet! And if he'd hit a rock or wiped out he could have spent the rest of the summer picking rocks out of his road rash.

About 10 minutes later we received an email from the president of a local skateboarding club, saying how dangerous this was and that we shouldn't judge all skateboarders from the actions of one. He also mentioned that he could teach kids…for free…how to skateboard safely since he'd just received a grant to spend his summer offering free skateboard lessons to kids at one of the local skate parks.

Because he was listening and had joined in our conversation, we had him call the show the next day — we're more than happy to promo his skateboarding workshops!

So listen to radio. And when you see an opportunity to discuss anything that fits under your expertise umbrella, don't hesitate to make contact…sometimes even the hosts don't know where a topic could lead.
