Hidden gems in small town radio stations

Summer is coming to an end. I ended it with a spectacular trip to the Oregon coast. I truly love it there. Something about the ocean, and small town hospitality; and we can’t forget the local radio stations. It is amazing to me how great a small market can sound. I was in a store in Seaside listening to the station that was booming out of the speakers and finally had to ask if this was a Seattle station or a Portland Station…they replied “neither, it’s our local Seaside station.” Man did that little station sound amazing! The reason I share this is, it doesn’t matter how small the radio station, it can still have the heart of a lion. I bet I could book almost anyone who reads this blog and has a topic worthy of a hot radio station a prime slot on the air with their morning show. And you know what? You would definitely sell books and have people sign up for your newsletter…because people in small towns listen to their radio DJ’s.

I punched up www.radio-locator.com and found seaside. It turns out the morning man at KAST 99.7FM is Mike Tanner who has worked in Chicago and LA. Is this guy connected to some of the major radio stations on the planet? You bet. If he liked you, would he pass you on to some if his radio friends who still work in LA and Chicago? I bet he would?

See how easy that was for me to get all the information. Many hidden gems can be found in small market radio stations. Be great in small markets and the big stations will come calling. I guarantee it!
