As a radio host and producer I get calls and emails everyday from authors and marketers who want to get on my radio show. These pitches come in all forms: email, phone, fax, and even snail mail.
In my ebook, "The Insiders Guide to Free Radio Publicity" I share all the do's and don'ts of pitching radio stations. I think the don'ts are more important than the do's.
A lady called me and flat out asked if she could get on my radio show to promote her book for Christmas. If I was Joe Blow radio guy I would have said no and hung up…
Would that be mean of me?
Radio stations are not in to giving you free publicity because you want to sell books. In fact, it is the kiss of death. To get mega mileage you need to think what's in it for the listeners and the radio station. Get into that mindset and you'll get booked…ask that other question and you'll be sitting in your basement with a pile of books to sell.
