This morning I was excited to talk with my 6:45 guest. I promo'd him and said how great it was going to be. In my best DJ voice I said, "Don't flip the dial we're coming right back with our special guest right after this." Only to come back with nothing…because the guest wasn't there when I called.
Now this is a problem that you don't want to get into if you are doing your own publicity. It makes every one look bad.
BUT if you do miss an interview, what is the right thing to do?
The guest emailed me and apologized profusely. He said he would drop everything to make it right and be on when I needed him.
How could I be mad? I know he's a great interview, and I know it was just a common mistake. I wish I could say I've never missed an interview…but yes, even the great Wayne Kelly has missed interviews with guests. And every time I do, I feel like a schmuck.
I don't want to dismiss it and say it's OK to miss the odd one here and there, because if the guest didn't contact me or came across as nonchalant about it, I would never have booked him again. But I'm happy to say, we re-booked and all is well with the world.
