The 2 most important words in your success journey should be “Thank You.”
Can you imagine these 2 words having such power and yet, you’d be shocked at how many people forget to use them.
You may be reading this thinking – Wayne’s lost his mind. But I can tell you, to get a thank you note after an interview is extremely rare.
So why do I think these 2 words can help you get more publicity?
If you get an interview on a blog, podcast, video, TV, Newspaper or radio show, you must remember the host had an opportunity to interview anyone – and they chose you. It’s an opportunity and if you are grateful for it – you could be the person they call first when they need a fill in interview.
I always send a thank you note immediately after I get to be a guest on a show. Also as a producer, I will always send a thank you note to any publicist who sets me up with a great guest.
This usually puts me on the front of the interview list when some firms have superstars who are doing a radio interview tour.
I also send thank you notes to:
• other radio hosts and producers if I use their ideas on my own show.
• a guest who really blew my socks off
• any celebrities that come on the show.
My tip for today, any time you get interviewed, always follow up with a thank you! And if you see people sign up for your newsletter or your book, make sure you follow up again with the media that helped you. Because I LOVE hearing if my listeners took action. That means they really connected with your topic…and then I can bring you back again and again.
Oh and I got busy doesn't fly for an excuse. Did you know some of the most popular radio shows take 5 minutes at the end of their shows to send out thank you emails to people who played a part on the air each day. I wonder if that's part of the reason they are soooo successful?
