Before you say YES to being a guest on someone's podcast or youtube channel, you MUST do a bit of research.
A crappy interviewer could actually HURT your branding.
These days, everyone thinks they can do an interview. BUT that is not the case. We are seeing terrible interviews being shared on social media all the time. And what's even worse to them being terrible is they are long!
It is your responsibility to ask where you can hear or see some of their previous interviews.
Here's why.
Last week I met "Shirley" a new client.
When I googled "Shirley" a youtube interview was the 4th search item down on the very first page of my online search.
I clicked play on this youtube video and then I CRINGED!
The "host" was horrible, unprofessional and had no idea what she was doing…and then when "Shirley" tried answering her questions, you couldn't even understand anything she was saying because there was a terrible echo from the speakers on the Host computer being turned so loud.
Does this representation hurt or help "Shirley" with her professional branding?
It most definitely hurt.
So before you say yes to doing an interview with a non-professional – make sure you do some homework.
I always look at:
* the number of views
* sound quality
* lighting
* confidence of the interviewer
I think these days you have to be very picky! Because as we saw when we googled "Shirley" – this one horrible video interview can live for a very long time on the internet.
