Radio and TV producers scour the daily newspapers for story ideas. And you should to. If a story is in the national paper and it fits under the umbrella of your expertise, then you should get media attention for it locally.
Yesterday I went through the USA Today and I found these 5 stories:
1. A story about how millions of families have given up on the dream of owning a home and the new American Dream of renting a house instead of owning one. The article says “in the next 5-10 years you’ll see tens of billions, if not hundreds of billions, of dollars of private equity pouring into the single family rental business.” ***Great topic for investment advisors, realtors, etc
2. School districts are rejecting “Pink Slime” the beef product you’ve probably seen all over the net in the past few months. ***Great story for nutritionist – how do we know what has pink slime and what doesn’t.
3. While we’re talking about diet – should governments be the ones to ban HUGE soda drinks? Shouldn’t we know better…do you really think downing 2 litres of soda pop at the movies is good for you? So why do people do it? (and yes this story was in the paper as a letter to the editor)
4. Parents need time off work to grieve. A touching story about a father who lost his daughter in a car accident and had to return to work 2-3 days after. ***Great story for councillors.
5. Singer Sheryl Crow has benign brain tumor. Celebrities will always bring health topics back to the forefront of media. So if you are an expert in Alternative healing, or anything to do with cancer at all, this is an opportunity to answer some questions about Sheryl Crow; or at least her type of cancer.
There you have 5 hot media topics that could attract attention for yourself from 1 paper on 1 day.
