1. Happy Stories.

‘Tis the season for happy stories. Food banks. Charity. Giving, helping and loving. All year long the news delivers bad news but this time of year we try to find the good in humanity. I recently saw a CNN story about a group of high school students who helped a member of their football team…a member who had suffered a spinal injury while playing football. Together they raised $96,000 for a new house that was wheelchair accessible.

Our radio station does a fundraiser for our local hospitals every year on the first Friday of December. This year we raised over $240,000 for our hospital foundation. Within this campaign we hear about heroes doing amazing things—from children who donate their piggy bank money…to families giving to charity instead of exchanging gifts that they maybe don’t need.
What’s your happy story? Do you know of a local hero who’s doing something great for others?

Let your media know. It’s the season of giving.

2. A comment to make listener’s call.

The best part about being on the radio is: my listeners are always there to make me feel better. This week on the air I made an off-handed comment that really got the phone ringing. What was the comment that made listeners call? –“I feel fat today!” Women called laughing because I was NOT the only man that’s ever made that comment. It turns out many listeners husbands also talk about feeling fat some days.

So why does this matter to you? It just goes to show you that sometimes the simplest comment can create a wonderful radio topic. We get requests for fitness experts all the time…but the ones who get on the radio are the ones who come up with something crazy like, “Is your man feeling fat and wishing for Spanx this Christmas?” Haha…That’s a great headline that will get you booked!

Make sure that while you have the crazy people (relatives) over for Christmas you pay attention to what they are complaining about…or discussing. You never know where your next great interview idea could come from.

3. Repo Man is Coming to Town.
